Wind Mitigation Inspection

What is Wind Mitigation Inspection?

A Wind Mitigation Inspection is an assessment for Florida homebuyers covering a home’s wind-mitigating features that can alleviate damage it may suffer during a windstorm or hurricane.

Why is Wind Mitigation Inspection required?

Florida has a law requiring that insurance companies offer discounts and credits to homeowners with features or enhancements that lessen any damage caused by a windstorm or hurricane. To qualify for these discounts, homeowners must obtain a wind mitigation inspection by a qualified inspector.

What is covered in a Wind Mitigation Inspection?

During a WIN Mitigation Inspection, a trained and certified WIN home inspector will conduct a visual examination of the various components of a property, such as:

  • Roof Cover
  • Roof to Deck Attachment
  • Roof to Wall Attachment
  • Roof Geometry
  • Secondary Water Resistance
  • Opening Protection

The inspector will provide their findings in a Wind Mitigation Report, generating a Wind Mitigation Report you can use to lower your home insurance premium.
